Viola candidates announced for 2025 Concours de Genève

06 May 2025

38 violists have been selected to compete in this year’s Concours de Genève. The pre-selection round was held in Geneva from 1 to 3 May, with a jury comprising Tabea Zimmermann, Tomoko Akasaka, Noémie Bialobroda and Frédéric Kirch.

The candidates will now produce a video recital, which will be broadcast online from 8 to 14 September. From this, the semi-finalists will be chosen for a three-part round, which will be held from 6 to 12 November, comprising a 50-60 minute solo recital, a chamber music recital, plus presentation of a personal artistic project.

Jury chair Zimmermann said: ’Wishing all selected candidates a truly meaningful preparation period for the 79th Concours de Genève – discover new repertoire ideas, develop your skills and your stage personality, and share your love of music with us through your online recital.’

The first prizewinner will receive CHF20,000 (£17,600), with second and third place receiving CHF12,000 (£10,500) and CHF8,000 (£7,050) respectively. A host of special prizes, endowed with cash and concert engagements, are also up for grabs, including the Audience Prize, Students’ Prize, the Rose-Marie Huguenin Prize, Arts Society Prize, Concerts de Jussy Prize and Hindemith Prize.
